Community Invited to Live Opening of Concord, NH’s 1965 Time Capsule The 50-year-wait is almost over…

On Thursday, May 7, the lid came off the rustic wooden outer box of Concord’s 1965 time capsule, revealing a mysterious brown paper bag nestled alongside the bulletproof metal capsule. The capsule is currently on display at Merrimack County Savings Bank, 89 North Main St., Concord.

Community members are encouraged to stop by and share their guesses at what’s in the 1965 time capsule, along with suggestions for what should be included in the 2015 time capsule to be buried on November 7. Ideas can also be emailed to TimeCapsule@concordhistoricalsociety.org. Guesses at 1965 time capsule contents due by May 15; deadline for 2015 time capsule suggestions is October 1.

The 1965 time capsule’s true contents will be revealed for the first time on June 7. The Concord Historical Society invites all to attend the Time Capsule Opening Event at Concord City Auditorium, 2 Prince St., Concord on Sunday, June 7. Ice cream social starts at 5:30 p.m., with time capsule opening commencing at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free; seating is first-come, first-seated. The time capsule opening and removal of objects will be projected on a large screen at Concord City Auditorium, allowing audience members a close-up view of the action from the comfort of their seats.

The mission of the Concord Historical Society’s Time Capsule Committee is to unearth the 1965 time capsule sited at City Plaza, Downtown Concord (completed June 6, 2014), oversee the opening and related festivities of the 1965 time capsule on June 7, 2015, and to research and select content to be placed in the 2015 time capsule slated for burial on November 7, 2015.
